In The Know: Caring for the SCI Patient

In The Know: Caring for the SCI Patient” is an in-service for hospitals and rehabilitation centers to better educate staff on how to care for a patient with a spinal cord injury.

Our Health Care Professional Educator will conduct in-services throughout the state for the purpose of educating doctors, nurses, and therapists on topics specific to SCI’s. However, it will also be free of charge to SCI survivors, students, and community agencies serving individuals with paralysis. These in-services will cover specific topics such as bowel care, bladder maintenance, sexuality, lifestyle, and pressure sores.

The primary goal of this program is to fill the void of knowledge in the medical community about spinal cord injuries. We fully expect each SCI patient that attends these training programs to learn how to become more independent and have a better quality of life.

This program was started with the Christopher Reeve Quality of Life Grant and was launched 2004. If your facility is interested in hosting an in-service, contact the Resource Center today!
